BigNews.Biz - Mar 19,2010 - Playa del Carmen Real Estate market will receive a very important announcement next week, (the week of March 21) when Felipe Calderon, President of Mexico, is expected to announce the beginning of the Riviera Maya International Airport. The new airport will bring new tourism and real estate growth to the area, and along with the growth, further investment opportunities.
President Calderon is planning a trip to the Playa del Carmen and Tulum area to formalize plans and make the official announcement of the beginning of the airport project in Tulum, about 45 minutes away from Playa del Carmen. He is expected to share information concerning the time line and dates as well as other details of the project.
The airport has been in the planning stages for several months now, and the formal announcement of the beginning of the project is being awaited by the Playa del Carmen Real Estate industry. The airport is being built as a response to the large amount of growth in the tourism industry in Quintana Roo (the state which includes Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum) and the large growth expected in the near future in Tulum, both in terms of tourism and real estate. While the capacity of the Cancun International Airport has recently been expanded with a second runway, the new airport is meant to help handle the growing international air traffic for this area, and open up new possibilities for tourism and real estate in the south of the state (Cancun is in the north, then Playa del Carmen, and Tulum is at about the middle.)
For Playa del Carmen Real Estate buyers, the airport not only means another option for air travel back home, but easy access to two international airport less than an hour away will also bring additional growth and increase to the area's already thriving tourism industry. This growth will, in turn, bring new real estate opportunities to investors wishing to focus on the tourism / rental market, as well as home buyers.
At the moment, Playa del Carmen remains the fastest-growing municipality in Mexico, with a tourism industry that has shown resilience to the effects of the recession. This fact can provide investors with further confidence in new opportunities which the Riviera Maya Airport brings to this market.
