Mack Applauds FreedomWorks Study on Accuracy of CBO Scores Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14) praised a new study released by FreedomWorks Foundation today that questions the reliability of scores, or cost estimates of legislation
BigNews.Biz - Dec 16,2009 - WASHINGTON – Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14) praised a new study released by FreedomWorks Foundation today that questions the reliability of scores, or cost estimates of legislation, prepared by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
In their report, FreedomWorks highlighted several examples of how CBO scores, at worst, have been up to 2,600 percent higher than the actual cost of legislation. FreedomWorks Foundation’s report can be accessed at http://www.freedomworks.org/publications/capitol-comment-432.
“I applaud FreedomWorks for completing this important analysis of how incorrect Congressional Budget Office scores truly are. Members of Congress have come to rely on the scores produced by the CBO to determine the cost of legislation, but relying on these scores is futile. If one were to apply FreedomWorks’ findings to the current health care debate, the true cost of the legislation will be trillions more than the $848 billion that the CBO is currently projecting.
“While I am strongly opposed to the Democrats’ proposed government takeover of our health care system, I am amazed at the number of Members of Congress who are hiding behind CBO scores before determining where they stand on this legislation. If history is any indicator, as FreedomWorks has shown us, relying on CBO scores is irresponsible, given their inaccuracy.”
