BigNews.Biz - Nov 06,2009 - Garden City, NY- November 6- The Garden City Trojans football team shut out another opponent (their 8th shutout of the season) with a 31-0 win over the Mepham Pirates in a Conference 2 quarterfinal game. The Trojans have yet to give up a touchdown this season and advance to the semi final which will be played next Friday at Hofstra University. Topher DiBona was successful on a 24 yard first quarter field goal attempt and put the Trojans up 3-0. After the kickoff to the Pirates, GC regained possession when Stephen Jahelka intercepted a pass at the Mepham 26. Matt Montgomery threw to Joe Tursi on the next play for a 26-yard touchdown to make the score 10-0. Montgomery also ran for a touchdown. Brian Fischer and Chris Stapleford added touchdowns and with the successful extra points by DiBona, the Trojans went on to win 31-0. Garden City limited Mepham to 89 total yards, 62 rushing on 25 carries. Joe Tursi, Jared Mitchell and Patric Berkery all had interceptions for GC. Billy Sweeney and Anton Dobrolezhin recorded one sack each for GC.
