BigNews.Biz - Apr 21,2009 - Pinewood Derby not just for Scouts anymore!
Not much has changed since the Pinewood Derby began with the Boy Scouts in 1953. Based upon a smaller version of the Soap Box Car, they’re still made from a block of wood and still gravity driven. What has changed is that these are not just for Scouts anymore. Now the cool kids at Bigfoot Lodge Los Angeles are designing, carving and racing for glory!
The last Tuesday of every month, beginning at 9pm, Bigfoot Lodge turns from local bar, to a miniature wooden Grand Prix. Entries are inspected by officials and racers are put to the test with a double elimination. The event is complete with race fans, flag girls and whole lot of drink specials!
So widdle that wood ‘cause Nascar ain’t got nothing on this!
Bigfoot Lodge was opened in 1999 by club designer Bobby Green who also designed and built theme nightclubs Bigfoot Lodge San Francisco, Saints & Sinners in Culver City, The Little Cave in Highland Park, Stinkers in Silver Lake. Bigfoot Lodge West, in West Los Angeles, will be opening this year.
