BigNews.Biz - Feb 02,2009 - CARY, N.C. – WiSpots (www.wispots.com), a high-tech company providing sponsor-supported WiFi access and tools to streamline practice operations in physicians’ offices and other wait environments, has been selected by InnovativeEconomy™ (www.innovativeeconomy.com) as the winner of its first-ever Innovative Business Contest.
WiSpots provides Patient Interaction Centers in wait environments, where the general public can access free WiFi service via multiple WiSpots WiPads. They do not need to use their own laptop, PDA or other WiFi-enabled device. Sponsors can reach a highly targeted, captive and interactive audience through scrolling display ads when the devices are not in use, or onscreen banner ads when users surf the Internet, check their e-mail, etc.
WiSpots’ pilot/beta-location clients have reported significantly improved patient satisfaction, and are very excited to take part in the upcoming revenue-sharing program. WiSpots can transform wait environments into an additional revenue stream, improve patient satisfaction and education, and streamline practice operations.
“I’m very honored that WiSpots was selected by InnovativeEconomy for this distinction,” said WiSpots President Kevin Flannery. “Things have been happening very fast in the past few months and we have some very exciting developments in the works.”
Along with recognition from InnovativeEconomy, WiSpots will receive a free valuation of the business and strategic planning services to help the company plan its intellectual property monetization activities. Collectively, these services are valued at $50,000 and will be provided by IP Launch, Inc., an intellectual property management company owned by the authors of the InnovativeEconomy blog. Additionally, Flannery will receive a complimentary copy of “How To Be a Creative Genius in Five Minutes or Less” by Gary Unger.
In explaining why WiSpots was selected over other entrants, InnovativeEconomy co-founder Shane Lashley, MBA, M.Mgt., noted the company exhibited the right combination of ingredients that are strong predictors of successful delivery of innovation to a market. In particular, InnovativeEconomy liked the way WiSpots seems to be managing this stage of its development, and the way the company demonstrated focus and uniqueness in a competitive environment. They also recognized the presence of key “ignition” features believed to be very powerful in determining whether a technology lives or dies. Finally, they were attracted to WiSpots’ social proof and believe the company is well-positioned to make a meaningful difference in its market.
“As I have had the opportunity to speak with Kevin Flannery about his company and learn more about the events unfolding in his immediate future with WiSpots, I am very gratified to see that others have seen what we see and are taking action of their own,” said Lashley.
In December 2008, WiSpots announced an agreement with Cyglera Health Systems Inc., a Canadian health care technology corporation, to provide patient-centric technology solutions for the medical waiting room environment with a focus on improving patient satisfaction, education, practice efficiency and practice revenues.
