WASHINGTON,†ó United States Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) released the following statement after meeting with Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt ó President-elect Trumpís nominee to become the next Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency:
"I had a good and productive meeting with Scott Pruitt. I talked with him about the importance of clean air to Tennesseans' jobs, health and tourism and how much progress each one of our metropolitan areas has made over the last few years toward that goal. I also reiterated my strong opposition to federal and state policies that fail to put nuclear power on a level playing field, especially since it produces 60 percent of our carbon-free electricity. One such policy is the Obama administrationís so-called Clean Power Plan, and another is the wasteful multi-billion dollar federal subsidy for wind turbines."
Alexander chairs the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, where he is working on legislation to bring safe drugs and medical devices to doctors' offices and patients' medicine cabinets more quickly.
Alexander is also chairman of the Senate Energy and Water Development Appropriations Subcommittee, where he works to boost funding for basic energy research and invest in our inland waterways and harbors.
Alexander was first elected to the Senate in 2002 and has been re-elected twice. His Republican colleagues elected him three times to be chairman of the Senate Republican Conference.†
