BigNews.Biz - Dec 26,2016 - MURPHY MAINTAINS SEAT ON APPROPRIATIONS, HEALTH, EDUCATION, LABOR & FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEES
WASHINGTON— The Senate Democratic Steering Committee announced that U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) will maintain his seats on the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, and the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The committee assignments are expected to be ratified by the whole caucus in the coming weeks.
Murphy is the first U.S. Senator from Connecticut to serve on the Appropriations Committee since 1987. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Murphy will continue to focus on securing funding for Connecticut’s priorities, such as defense manufacturing, transportation infrastructure, and federal safety net programs. As a member of the HELP and Foreign Relations Committees, Murphy will also continue to be a strong voice in pushing back against Republican attempts to defund the Affordable Care Act, anti-gun violence programs, and U.S. diplomatic efforts abroad.
“I’m honored to be keeping each of my committee assignments – they have served as perfect platforms from which to fight for Connecticut residents and priorities over the last couple years,” said Murphy. “I’m looking forward to continuing my work on these committees to bring more money home to Connecticut to grow jobs, to make sure all our kids get a quality education, and to push for a foreign policy that prioritizes diplomacy and keeps all of us safe.”
Murphy will also maintain his seat on the Senate Democratic Steering & Outreach Committee. This Committee helps drive the Democratic agenda in the U.S. Senate by convening advocacy groups, intergovernmental organizations, and members of Congress around key policy priorities.
