WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) continued his call for the release of Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, an Iranian dissident jailed for his religious beliefs, by releasing a video highlighting the issue.
Pastor Nadarkhani is included as part of Senator Kirk’s Iranian Dissident Awareness Program (IDAP), an international awareness campaign that serves to highlight the victims of human rights abuses under the current Iranian regime.
In March, Senator Kirk joined Senator David Vitter (R-La.) as an original cosponsor of a resolution, S. Res. 385, which condemns the government of Iran for its continued persecution, imprisonment and sentencing of Pastor Nadarkhani for his religious beliefs.

He practiced law at Baker & McKenzie before serving as a counsel to the House International Relations Committee. In 2000, Mark was elected to the House of Representatives where he served five terms before his election to the Senate.
