WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) welcomed the McAlester, Okla. community to Washington, D.C. for the 1st annual McAlester Stampede. During their fly-in visit, McAlester city officials, community business leaders including Choctaw Defense, members of the McAlester Defense Support Association (MDSA), American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) and the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (MCAAP) met with the Okla. congressional delegation and defense representatives to discuss advancing its defense issues pertinent to the MCAAP and the newly formed MDSA.
“The first McAlester Stampede proved to be valuable and worthwhile to both McAlester leaders and the Oklahoma congressional delegation,” said Inhofe. “I enjoyed meeting with all the members of the McAlester community. Our discussions on the budget, national defense, and current operations at MCAAP were beneficial to the development of future defense initiatives important to McAlester, the state of Oklahoma, and our nation. Their visit to Washington, D.C. highlighted the community’s commitment to our military and our national security. McAlester and MCAAP’s dedicated and reliable workforce has provided our warfighters with the necessary munitions for power projection for over 60 years, and continues to make a lasting impact in all U.S. combat operations to include the recent conflicts in both Iraq and Afghanistan.”
