Electrorack Releases Newest Article on its ePulse Blog: Data Centers to Face Power Problems in US Market
Anaheim, CA – April 30th, 2012 – Electrorack, a Legrand Group brand, recently posted its article, Data Centers to Face Power Problems in US Market, on its ePulse Info Center at www.electrorack.com.
“A key for survival for any business is keeping costs low,” said Todd Schneider, Electrorack’s Director of Marketing. “Given how increasingly expensive power in the US has become, one of the ways to achieve this goal is to look for locations where milder, year-round temperatures mean less cooling power requirements.”
Excerpt from Data Centers to Face Power Problems in US Market:
The rising costs of power are a major concern for data centers in the United States. Increasingly, major corporations are selecting, or are currently considering, overseas locations for their new infrastructure due to rising US electricity and cooling bills.
US companies look for locations where the weather is mild, lowering data center cooling requirements, and where there are green options like hydroelectricity, wind power and solar power. One large corporation with multiple data center facilities has even “floated” the idea of offshore data barges located from three to seven miles offshore in waters from 50 to 70 meters deep.
“Keeping data centers cool will always be a major concern, and that cooling requires power. To reduce costs, companies may want to consider areas with colder climates and renewable energy options,” added Todd. “If relocation is not an option, there are other ways to save on energy bills, such as turning off servers that aren’t in use, installing a geothermal cooling system, or even improving ventilation.”
