WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) announced that after mounting criticism of proposed labor rules for youth in agriculture, the U.S. Department of Labor has withdrawn the regulations that threatened the American tradition of the family farm.
"I am pleased the Administration has listened to reason and has withdrawn a highly criticized proposed rule that would have fundamentally altered the rural way of life in America for generations to come," Roberts said. "Under the leadership of Kansas' Senator Jerry Moran, farm country united against this short-sided proposal and once again commonsense prevails. The Administration should apply these lessons to all of its burdensome regulations."
Senator Roberts was an outspoken critic of this rule. As Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, and a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, Senator Roberts called for hearings in the HELP Committee and led briefings in the Agriculture Committee to raise awareness of the rule that defied Kansas common sense.
