Chaser:``I will not be turned into a political prostitute. I will not pander to special interests just to receive a campaign contribution.'' - Richard Mourdock speaking to the Bloomington Herald-Times on April 25, 1992 during one of his many failed bids for Congress against former Democratic Congressman Frank McCloskey.

Tell Us Who's a Real Hoosier Again
Indianapolis (April 26, 2012) - In a television spot endorsing Senator Dick Lugar, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels said: "The truth can take a beating in campaign time and this year it's Dick Lugar on the receiving end... It's funny in a way, these folks from elsewhere, here telling us who's a real Hoosier."
In yet another deceptive, negative ad, the Club for Growth attempts to distract voters from Richard Mourdock's growing problems - including whether the Club and Mourdock are potentially skirting pay-to-play laws. A significant number ofClub for Growth donors may be prohibited from contributing directly to the Murdock campaign because of the federal anti-'pay-to-play' rules, such as Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board Rule g-37 and Securities and Exchange Rule 206(4)-5. Under these rules, individuals can suffer significant penalties for making political contributions that influence officials, such as Mourdock, who occupy positions with the power to steer invested taxpayer money to benefit the donor(s). Such rules expressly include anti-circumvention provisions, i.e., barring attempts to launder contributions through another entity.
Why won't Mourdock call on the Club for Growth to release all of its donors? Do any Club for Growth donors manage state funds under Mourdock's control? Why won't Mourdock affirmatively assure Hoosier taxpayers that secret Wall Street donors to the Club for Growth will not be shown any favoritism by him personally or by the Treasurer's Office?
As we await answers from Mourdock on these issues, here is a fact check of the Club's latest negative ad:
FACT CHECK
What's happened to Dick Lugar? He was a respected national leader, a statesman.
Senator Lugar remains a national leader and statesman on a range of issue - from building the Keystone XL Pipeline to cutting the wasteful federal sugar program to international religious freedom. Words like "national leader" and "statesman" have never been uttered about Richard Mourdock.
Then he became part of the problem, joining the liberals in voting for record debt, bailouts and tax hikes.
Senator Lugar has a strong fiscally conservative record, which is why Indiana's leading job creators - like the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and the Indiana Manufacturers Association - endorsed Lugar in this race.
In addition to supporting the Ryan Budget, Senator Lugar's focus is on creating jobs through real tax reform, controlling federal spending and regulation, encouraging domestic sources of energy, and promoting exports of American products.
