BigNews.Biz - Apr 23,2012 - Amalia Designs was selected by renowned costume designer Mona May to provide jewelry for Tara Reid’s character (Vicky) in Universal Pictures’ comedy American Reunion. Part of Amalia Designs’ Classic Collection, the elegant mid-century modern-inspired Sunburst pendant necklace in 14 karat gold was featured prominently in Reid’s ensemble. Additionally, two original designs were created specifically for the movie – a pair of earrings crafted of blue kyanite, faceted white topaz, and 18 karat gold brushed teardrops; and a 20 inch necklace featuring blue kyanite, tumbled citrine and faceted white topaz on a 14 karat gold Figaro chain. All of the pieces were worn by the star during the school reunion party scene.
In the comedy, American Reunion, all of the American Pie characters we met more than a decade ago return to East Great Falls for their high school reunion. In one long overdue weekend, they will discover what has changed, who hasn’t, and that time and distance can’t break the bonds of friendship. “We were thrilled to be asked to provide jewelry for and to collaborate with Mona May on this fun and exciting project,” states Andrea Slappey, owner of Amalia Designs. The comedy American Reunion was released earlier this month.
The refined and elegant aesthetic of Amalia Designs is influenced by the beauty of nature and by the diverse experiences of principal designer Andrea Slappey. With a background which includes psychology, religion, spirituality, art history, sculpture, and metalsmithing, Slappey finds crafting her creations to be an inspirational and synergetic process. Her work expresses a subtle symbolism which grows from both her materials and her environment as she envisions and brings to expression the underlying structure of each piece. The results of this visionary effort are reflected by the collection’s recurring themes of relationships and wholeness.
Amalia Designs is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.
