Baucus to FEMA: ‘Use Common Sense to Revise Flood Maps’ Senator Convinces FEMA to Revise Flawed Mapping System, Urges Agency to Act Quickly, Wisely to Right Wrong for Montana Communities
Baucus has employed a two-pronged strategy to address to problems posed by the new FEMA and Corps policies:
1. First, Baucus is pressing the Corps to reprioritize its budget to pay for levee certification in small rural communities that cannot afford the costs of certification on their own, and he has introduced legislation to require the Corps do so.
2. Second, Baucus has successfully convinced FEMA to reassess its mapping methodology, and is now urging the agency to do so as quickly as possible, using common sense that works for Montana.
